Denzil Vethamanikam
As our Founding Pastor Denzil has been serving our church since 2013. As the lead Pastor he is responsible for all aspects of the church vision, including leadership, preaching and teaching, and external relationships.
While working as a full time Aircraft Engineer for Qantas, he also has a wealth of experience across a vast range of church ministries in various church environments.
Denzil has a Certificate in Theology and furthermore acts as a Pastoral Leader for the Baptist Union of Victoria. He is married to Damayanthi and together they have two young adult children Sam and Dilhani.
Beliefs
Our beliefs are the foundation of our ministry
We believe the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God.
We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His promised return to rule and reign forever.
We believe in the blessed hope – the rapture of the Church at Christ’s coming.
We believe the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ.
We believe regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
We believe in water baptism by immersion.
We believe the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer.
We believe the baptism in the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for it.
We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation.
Our History
Reminding us of our humble beginnings
Compassion Christian Church was formed in early 2015 through prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit. Our first Sinhalese service was held on the 25th of April 2015 in the long room of Waverley Baptist Church.
The service is overlooked by Pastor Denzil Vethamanikam, his wife Damayanthi. Together with our leaders we conduct service every Second Saturday evening in Sinhalese. Our main purpose is to share the good news of Jesus Christ to others, after the services we also provide a Sri Lankan style meal and have a time of fellowship.
We also help other ministries both locally and internationally by providing financial aid and prayer.
